Throughout his distinguished career, Amaral has crafted a poetic and existential universe through sculpture, drawing, and painting, seamlessly blending the mythical and the human, the intimate and the timeless. His work is held in major international collections, affirming his status as one of contemporary art’s most singular and profound voices. Moonwatcher is a selection of works from various periods of Jim Amaral’s career and across different media, employing ideas rooted in Surrealism to address urgent issues and subject contemporary times to poetic scrutiny. Through a series of stone and bronze sculptures, works on paper, and paintings, Moonwatcher offers a comprehensive view of Amaral’s extensive body of work, following recurring themes such as rituality, humanity’s place within the vastness of the universe, and art and poetry as independent dimensions where desires, passions, and fantasies reside beyond the human experience. Amaral’s work has been the subject of important solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá (MAMBO) and Museo La Tertulia in Cali. It has also been featured in leading international fairs and museums, including ARCOmadrid and the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA).
