Founded in Cologne in 1995, the gallery has been located in Berlin with two adjacent exhibition spaces since 2005. Representing a roster acclaimed established artists with a focus on painting, sculpture, drawing, and photography creates the context for the gallery program. Works by the gallery artists are featured in prestigious collections worldwide, such as MoMA New York, Centre Pompidou Paris, Tate London, Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin, Istanbul Modern Museum, or M+ Hong Kong. Many of the artists have been represented by the gallery from an early stage in their careers. Several of the gallery's artists have been recognized with prestigious international art prizes, such as the Turner Prize and the Praemium Imperiale, which has been awarded to three of the gallery's artists. Working closely with museums and public institutions, the gallery has placed works with institutions such as M+ in Hong Kong, the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, the Nasher Sculpture Center Dallas, Centre Pompidou Paris, or Pinakothek der Moderne Munich. The exhibition Buchmann Galerie: 30 Years shows selected works by all the artists with whom the gallery has worked closely in recent years.
