Between Bridges Residency SpaceSolo presents a series of new works by Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino, conceived after works by Elizeu Celestino de Araújo (in memoriam), Vilson Celestino Batista, Maria Sebastiana Batista, Ana de F. V. da R. Celestino, Benedito L. da Rocha (in memoriam), and Íris V. da Rocha, which are also included in the exhibition. A set of letters of attorney signed by the living participants grants Celestino the right to exhibit the works of their collaborators while allowing consent to be revoked at any time. Withdrawal triggers the immediate removal of the corresponding work from the show. Included are drawings, archival garments, floor plans, embroidery with abstract and floral motifs, and wooden pieces sometimes dated over 30 years old. These works, mostly predating Celestino’s practice, delineate the principal sources of influence on the artist's work over the past six years. The exhibition operates within this framework of delegation and revocation, while naming the main references of Wisrah C. V. da R. Celestino. In such a dynamic, authorship and legacy are determined as much by contractual conditions as by the works themselves. Since 2019, Celestino (1989, Buritizeiro, Brazil) has worked with their genealogical predecessors to examine how familial ties and property regimes define artistic labor, with attention to language and objecthood, within an investigation toward institutional critique. Previous projects gave a body to that relationship in works such as Rental/Father, 2023 (one or more objects rented from the artist's father); Privacy, 2023 (a set of curtains loaned from the artist's family members); and Ana, 2024 (the ceiling of the exhibition space painted in one or more colors chosen by the artist's mother). During their residency at Between Bridges (July–December 2025), they extended this investigation in a formal study on the intellectual and creative legacies of these six figures. For the duration of the exhibition, the artist will continue to use the space as part of the residency program. Under these terms, the exhibition may look different at its closing date.
