Twilight Chymical Conjunction
EntranceEntrance is pleased to present Twilight Chymical Conjunction, a solo exhibition by Noel de Lesseps, the artist’s first solo exhibition with Entrance following our most recent presentation of his work at Felix Art Fair, Los Angeles, 2026. De Lesseps conjures town square happenings, courtyard affairs, and field work romps in Twilight Chymical Conjunction. Painting with a textured and mannered hand, reminiscent of Toulouse Lautrec or Edward Munch. Characters engage and questions arise, but not to be answered. Laws of objects and forces are enacted, though they are liable to change. The ensuing narrative unfolds systematically. Imagine steam inflating a statesman’s head, the same steam that was deflated from a frog’s vocal sac. Small but significant actions inform one another. Unknown elixirs and experiment paraphernalia are strewn about, declaring research has segued into splendor. Chance can appear to be the primary force, but more is determined than we think. ‘Conjunctions’ can be understood as a formal element involving constellations of beings entangled among one another, inseparable from their environment. Celestial markings layer a cobbled road or complete lines of a basking creature. If moments like these are brought on by an act of divinity, they continue to embrace uncertainty. Serendipity has its pitfalls and its silver linings; it gives way to anything really– or nothing. Once a line is first put down, is the outcome already decided? Is each following move an act of resisting what was decided? De Lesseps builds his own index of potent symbols and motifs. The geometric shapes inscribed throughout suggest religious iconography to adorn the figures’ crusades. More organic, goblet-like forms balloon into the frame to declare the nighttime fete in full swing. The clairvoyants are orchestrating these quests, and their visions are on display. —Thomas Ludacer Noel de Lesseps (b. 1996, Southampton, NY) is a painter and multimedia artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Self-taught, de Lesseps has maintained a dedicated studio practice since 2017. Working intuitively with improvisation, he explores the liminal space between abstraction and figuration, creating works that record a meeting of matter and mind. His practice reflects ongoing interests in philosophical, emotional, and metaphysical experience, treating the canvas as a site where the physical act of painting intersects with broader questions of consciousness and being. De Lesseps has presented solo exhibitions at Picture Theory, New York, NY (2023), The Fireplace Project, East Hampton, NY (2023), The Ranch, Montauk, NY (2022), and Nathalie Karg Gallery, New York, NY (2022). His work has been included in group exhibitions at The Living Gallery, Brooklyn, NY (2025), Harpers, New York, NY (2024), KDR305, Miami, FL (2024), Kaleidoscope, Brooklyn, NY (2024), and Alexander DiJulio, New York, NY (2023), among others. He has participated in fair presentations with Entrance at Felix Art Fair, Los Angeles, CA (2026, 2025), as well as SPRINGBREAK Art Fair, New York, NY (2020).
