Ice-blink

Ice-blink is Selena Kimball’s second solo exhibition with Ulterior Gallery. The large-scale works in the exhibition are built from thousands of original steel and wood engravings cut from first editions of Arctic Explorations by Elisha Kent Kane, published in 1856, then the most widely read illustrated account of the Arctic. Working between personal grief and planetary loss, Kimball submerges completed collages in iodine, staining and puckering the surface in a gesture of attending, even when there is nothing left to heal.
