Dashwood ProjectsSoft Bound, a new exhibition by Helena Goni presents garments created through a process that merges shibari, the Japanese practice of rope bondage, with cyanotype, one of photography’s earliest printing techniques. By coating fabric with light sensitive emulsion, tying it to the body, and then exposing it to sunlight, Goni records both rope marks and bodily folds, transforming clothing into a photographic surface. The works revisit the relationship between photography and bondage imagery while foregrounding the perspective of the bound body.
