2024 Chubb Fellows Exhibition

New York Academy of Art

26 August – 19 September 2024

Claudio Cecchetti Jane Philips Laura Romaine Kylee Snow The New York Academy of Art is pleased to present its annual Chubb Fellows Exhibition, this year featuring the works of four distinguished artists, Claudio Cecchetti (MFA 2023), Jane Philips (MFA 2023), Laura Romaine (MFA 2022), and Kylee Snow (MFA 2022). The Chubb Fellowship is the highest honor the Academy bestows on its graduates, combining intensive studio work, in-depth personal study, teaching experience and mentorship, so that Fellows can both grow as artists and foster growth in the community of artists around them. The Fellows receive studio accommodations, exhibition opportunities, and a stipend. In December of this year, they will exhibit work at Chubb’s Lounge in the Art Basel Miami Beach Collector’s Lounge. For the first time, the Chubb Fellows cohort includes four artists instead of the usual three. Academy President David Kratz explains, “Each year, the Chubb Fellows are chosen with the help of a panel of experts and advisors, including a rotating member from the Board of Trustees. In 2024, Sharon Jacob, a trustee since 2016, was invited to participate in the selection process. When voting resulted in a tie among several candidates, Sharon’s enthusiasm and determination prevailed. The Jacob family agreed to sponsor a fourth Fellow this year, with Chubb’s support. Sharon’s passion and dedication to the school are truly invaluable.” Originally from Florence, and now based in New York City, Cecchetti brings his award-winning mastery from the Venice Biennale to the forefront with thought-provoking pieces. Jane Philips, a Brooklyn-based painter, delves into the interplay between nature and anxiety, drawing on the imagery of her Gulf Coast childhood to evoke profound inner landscapes. Laura Romaine, a New York-based artist, uses humor to challenge the boundaries of her human and canine subjects, stretching forms to the point of absurdity in a way that both entertains and disturbs. Kylee Snow, also based in Brooklyn, creates work that explores the deep relationship between home, objects, and inhabitants, and how we live in communication with “built” space. This show is a celebration of their unique visions and the powerful impact they are making in the contemporary art world. Founded in 1982 by artists, scholars, and patrons of the arts, including Andy Warhol, the New York Academy of Art is a cultural and educational institution that combines intensive technical training in the fine arts with active critical discourse. The Academy believes that rigorously trained artists are best able to realize their artistic vision. Through major exhibitions, a lively speaker series, and an ambitious educational program, the Academy serves as a creative and intellectual center for all artists dedicated to highly skilled, conceptually aware figurative and representational art.
