Holtermann Fine ArtTony Cragg Lu Song Jesse Wine The gallery presents an exhibition showcasing the works of Tony Cragg, Lu Song, and Jesse Wine. The artworks explore various facets of contemporary art through diverse materials and themes. Each artist brings a distinct perspective, contributing to a dynamic and thought-provoking display. Tony Cragg (b. 1949, United Kingdom) has been working and exhibiting since 1969. He studied at the Royal College of Art in London and has lived in Wuppertal since 1977. He participated in documenta 7 and 8 and represented Britain at the Biennale in Venice in 1988. He is the recipient of the Turner Prize at the Tate Gallery, London in 1988; the prestigious Praemium Imperiale Award, Tokyo in 2007 and the Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award in 2017. Cragg has held professorships in the Akademie der Künste in Berlin and Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he was director from 2009 to 2013. He has exhibited extensively in museums worldwide: Tate Gallery, London (1988); Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven and Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Duesseldorf (1989); Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh and Musée du Louvre, Paris (2011); Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg (2013); Von der Heydt-Museum, Wuppertal; Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg (2016); Boboli Gardens, Florence (2019); MuBE, Sao Paulo (2019) and Houghton Hall, Norfolk (2021); Albertina, Vienna (2022); Museo Novecento, Florence (2022); Neue Pinakothek, Munich (2023) and Kistefos, Norway (2023). Lu Song (b. 1982, China) is an artist based in Beijing. Graduating in 2006 from the Wimbledon College of Art London, he has exhibited all over the world with solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Berlin, Sidney, Beijing. He exhibited with Interni romani, at the Mattatoio in Roma (2018) and with an important retrospective titled Flow at the OCAT Museum in Xi’an, China (2017). Song’s group exhibitions include: Keep Going John Armleder & Lu Song (Special project), Westbund Shangai (2020), Ulysses’s Gaze – the Return of Painterliness and Soulful Contemplation, Ginkgo Art Center, Beijing (2016); China Arte Brazil, Sao Paulo, Brazil (2014); Das Ich im Anderen, Mercator Foundation, Essen (2014). His work is included in prominent collections such as the K11 Art Foundation in Hong Kong, the Akagawa Collection in Sao Paolo, Brazil, the Bronner/Philara Collection in Düsseldorf, Germany and the Dean Valentine Collection in Los Angeles, USA. Jesse Wine (b. 1983, UK) is currently based in New York, USA. He gained his BA from Camberwell College of Art, London and an MA in Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, London. After electing to take a pottery course when studying abroad at Hunter College in New York, Wine has never turned back and, in his recent practice, he mainly uses clay to create his fragile, imperfect art-objects. Solo shows include The Modern Institute, Glasgow (2022), Gemeentemuseum, Den Haag (2016); Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead (2014); Hayward Gallery, London (2011). His work has also been exhibited at Boca Raton Museum of Art, Florida; Tate St Ives, Cornwall; and Kettle’s Yard Museum of Cambridge, Cambridge among others. Wine is also a Ceramics Fellow at the Camden Arts Centre, and has participated in artist residencies at The Roberts Institute of Art in Scotland, as well as at Fonderia Battaglia, Milan.
