Power Studies

The exhibition and installation project Power Studies includes a series of five paintings that center around the anthropomorphic figure of a lemon tree. As sites of, rivals to, and obstacles for the production of energy, these trees embody an ambiguous relationship to power. For this project, a new semi-underground pavilion has been built in the garden of City Salts. Power Studies is the third collaboration between artist Thomas Jeppe and curator Benedikt Wyss – following the underground gallery Unsere Umwelt, produced in 2016 as part of the Haus #99 demolition residency, and Umwelt Mode, an exhibition held in 2017 in a gutted building, both in Basel.
