David Lieske & Shinro Ohtake

Neither

21 November 2024 – 12 January 2025

Corvi-Mora and Greengrassi are thrilled to present a collaborative project at Neither, featuring work by Shinro Ohtake and David Lieske. Shinro Ohtake is one of Japan’s leading contemporary artists; at the core of his practice is the repurposing and reworking of found images and objects that acquire new meaning through a process of transformation. The same applies for the neons exhibited here, produced in the late Nineties: they appear to be fragments of neon signs which have been reconfigured to create a new, original work. David Lieske’s works in the exhibition follow a familiar pattern in his practice: their starting point is a found object (or word) which was already used in a work in the past. The same element is here repurposed with some formal modifications which trigger a shift in meaning. Shinro Ohtake has shown at greengrassi in 2022. David Lieske has exhibited at Corvi-Mora in 2009, 2010, 2012, 2016 and 2019. He is currently working on a collaborative project with Than Hussein Clark which will be presented at Corvi-Mora in Autumn 2025.
