Together Shiyoze! (Let's Get Together!)

Salon 94 is proud to present our fourth solo exhibition of works by the Japanese master ceramicist Takuro Kuwata, and his largest exhibition to date in New York. Featuring a selection of new ceramic and metal chawans (tea bowls) in both monumental and intimate scales, Kuwata's fearlessly punk ceramic sculptures combine traditional Japanese techniques - such as kairagi and ishihaze - with an iconic splendor and constant innovation which the artist has cultivated for nearly two decades. Joining new ceramic and metal chawans will be the artist's harvest of bronze peaches arranged within an indoor garden. The peaches follow Kuwata's 2023 commission at the Okayama Performing Arts Theater, in which the artist created a monumental outdoor chawan transforming into a peach tree, symbolizing nature as a constant giver and host. This concept reflects Kuwata's belief in generosity as an essential creative act, a value rooted in the practice of the Japanese tea ceremony.
