Louise Bourgeois & Carol Rama
Bricoleuses
Fergus McCaffreyFergus McCaffrey, New York is very proud to present Bricoleuses: The Art of Louise Bourgeois & Carol Rama, the first exhibition to explore the formal and conceptual similarities between iconic artists Louise Bourgeois (1911–2010) and Carol Rama (1918–2015). The exhibition features some forty paintings, sculptures and works on paper occupying both floors of the gallery’s 26th Street location. Works are grouped according to four themes: “Cells,” “Dismemberment,” “Breasts & Phalluses / Bicycle Tires & Udders” and “The Cartesian Impulse.” Throughout, the exhibition highlights Bourgeois and Rama’s shared tactic of bricolage—an improvisatory process whereby the artist recombines whatever materials are at hand, imbuing them with new meaning. In conjunction with the exhibition, the gallery produced a new publication further exploring the relationship between these two extraordinary artists.
