Mastlands
Duckworth GalleryDuckworth Gallery is proud to present Mastlands (1975–77), a rare and electrifying exhibition of large-scale abstract works by renowned British-American artist Aidron Duckworth. This curated selection spotlights a pivotal and experimental period in Duckworth’s career, unveiling a unique body of work that boldly fuses abstraction with conceptual intensity. Created between 1975 and 1977, the Mastlands series distills Duckworth’s evolving formal vocabulary—marked by sharp compositional geometry, saturated color fields, and enigmatic spatial tensions. These paintings are as much meditations on structure and perception as they are expressions of a fiercely individual visual language. Aidron Duckworth (1920-2001) was an influential teacher and philosopher of form. Mastlands offers a fresh lens on a deeply conceptual artist whose rigorous approach to painting people transcended trends and continues to challenge contemporary notions of abstraction. The Aidron Duckworth Gallery is a 501(c)(3) charitable trust committed to continuing the legacy of the Aidron Duckworth Art Museum (2001–2024). The gallery regularly showcases Duckworth’s work alongside exhibitions by guest artists. In the spirit of Duckworth’s fearless experimentation, the gallery is dedicated to supporting local and underrepresented artists whose voices inspire reflection, inquiry, and challenge.
