Spencer’s Boutique is a group exhibition featuring 40 artists paying homage to the legendary 1990s mall store, Spencer’s Gifts. Opening this holiday season at A Hug From The Art World (10th Ave & 19th St, Chelsea), the show transforms the gallery into an immersive, art experience that fuses nostalgia, humor, and fine craftsmanship. Like its namesake, Spencer’s Boutique embraces aliens, lava lamps, gag gifts, irreverent t-shirts, sex toys, and more. These subjects are presented as painting, sculpture, ceramics, furnishings, and even baked goods. With a focus on accessibility, works on display are priced for both the casual shopper and the seasoned collector. For this special presentation, 95 Gallon Gallery co-directors Bradley Milligan and Dan Gausman has constructed a full-scale installation inside the gallery. Milligan, a professional carpenter who builds for New York galleries, and Gausman, a scenic artist for television productions such as Severance (Apple TV+) and Fallout (Amazon Prime), bring their technical expertise and love of spectacle to the buildout. Spencer’s Boutique is a nesting doll of exhibitions: a solo show inside a trash, inside a holiday market, inside a Chelsea gallery directed by former Gagosian veteran Adam Cohen. With Spencer’s Boutique 95 Gallon Gallery challenges the traditional structure of a group show by engaging the gallery itself as collaborator and performer. Featured artists include: Heather Benjamin, Sam “Big Gulp” Keller, Serena Chang, Adam Krueger, Margot Bird, and Royal Jarmon with additional works by 40 emerging and established artists from the New York and beyond.
