The Artist RoomInspired by a 1970s kung fu magazine, Plaster began in 2020 as a collectable poster magazine with each issue dedicated to a leading artist. In 2023, Plaster launched its digital platform, focusing on contemporary visual art and its intersections with fashion, music, film and beyond. This issue is the largest to-date and the first to feature two artists in collaboration. Taburet’s perverse, horned, masked artistic alter ego “PYT” is captured by Navy’s atmospheric, hedonistic photography, on a journey from cradle, to grave, to strip club. The 100-page open bound and slip cased publication includes a collectable A1 poster featuring Navy’s photograph of PYT, an essay by the writer Matthew Holman on the “dark-romantic carnival” of Taburet’s horned mask, and a conversation between Taburet, Navy and Plaster’s creative director and co-founder, Finn Constantine, on the origin of this project. Finn Constantine says: “Pol is an artist we have admired for a long time. His work – which has been exhibited everywhere from Lafayette Anticipations, Paris, to Mendes Wood DM, São Paulo – is immediately recognisable, bewitching in colour and captivating in composition. The horned protagonist of this magazine’s storyline draws on the beasts that recur throughout his paintings. On the other side of the universe is Dexter, undoubtedly one of the most sought-after image makers working today, who has the uncanny ability to translate emotions into images that grab the viewer by the scruff of the neck. He has collaborated with the likes of André 3000, Dior and every magazine worth reading. This magazine looks into Pol’s world through Dexter’s lens.” Pol Taburet (b. 1997, Paris, France) lives and works in Paris. Taburet obtained his bachelor’s and post-graduate degrees at École Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris-Cergy. Recent solo exhibitions include: Longlati Foundation, Shanghai (2024); Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (2023); Clearing, Los Angeles (2022); and Balice Hertling, Paris (2020). His work is included in major collections including the Pinault Collection, Paris, and Lafayette Anticipations, Paris. Dexter Navy (b. London, UK) is an artist, film director and photographer. Navy’s aesthetic derives from an Egyptian / English heritage that taught him to combine the fields of art, craft, and design. Selected editorial clients include: i-D; Dazed; Vogue; Wall Street Journal; and Interview. Commercial clients include: Dior; Louis Vuitton; Nike; Adidas; and Rick Owens. Plaster is a magazine for the visual art obsessed. The magazine was founded in 2020 by Milo Astaire and Finn Constantine.
