Shed

19 September – 24 November 2024

shed, v. To lose, cast off by natural processes. shed, n. A light structure built for shelter or storage, or for use as a workshop. The name Shed is both a command and a space. The gallery, like the works exhibited inside, was found—stumbled upon. And like those works, to call Shed a readymade may be a stretch; there was Aryan Brotherhood graffiti beneath what is now fresh drywall. Next door the space was available but too big. “I got this shed in the back that might suit what you’re looking for,” he said, I think. Shed is an artist conceived and funded gallery space. Shed itself is the encompassing work, Sic! is the exhibition’s title. Shed falls under this title Sic! and Sic! falls under Shed. One following the other—a loop. For the run of the exhibition works may be shifted and/or replaced. Fern Vargas is an artist working in Los Angeles. He received his MFA at the University of Pennsylvania and his BFA from Cooper Union in New York. He attended the Skowheegan School of Painting and Sculpture and was a fellow at the American Academy in Rome.
