Writing Home

The Fridge

31 October – 15 November 2025

The Fridge is delighted to present Writing Home a cross-generational duo show of Susan and Philip Andelman. Susan Andelman finds elegance in the most humble materials, transforming them into distinctive paper collages. Her work explores repetition and subtle geometry, arranging ordinary envelopes into carefully ordered grids. Susan’s close attention to detail and her extraordinary sense of color and shape elevate the simplest themes into sophisticated, refined works of art. The Cubists have long appealed to her sensibilities. A native New Yorker, she studied with Bruce Dorfman at the Art Students League of New York. Born in Thailand and raised between Paris and New York, Philip Andelman began his career in high school when he was asked to photograph The Grateful Dead across their final year of touring. After college he fell into directing music videos and commercials, eventually collaborating with artists as diverse as Taylor Swift, Jay- Z, Khruangbin, and Billie Eilish, alongside brands like Adidas, Samsung, and Target. For the past twenty-five years, Philip has chronicled his life through annual photo diaries, alternating between the obvious celebratory highlights and the quotidian mundane. In parallel, he has always made a point of writing letters home from his travels, whether a multi-paged ode meant to woo his wife, or a few words in passing to a long-lost friend. For practical reasons, he was never able to merge these two disciplines. In this show, he imagines the correspondences he might have had while capturing life unfolding before him.
