Jeff Wall
Life in Pictures
White CubeWhite Cube is pleased to present a comprehensive solo exhibition of works by Jeff Wall at Bermondsey. Marking 30 years of White Cube's collaboration with the artist, this major presentation will bring together over 30 key works from Wall's oeuvre including his series of iconic light-boxes as well as new pictures. Since the late 1970s, Jeff Wall (b. 1946) has consistently sought new ways to expand the possibilities of picture-making. Engaging with both documentary and staged modalities, the artist has contributed significantly to establishing photography as an autonomous medium. Regarded as the founder of ‘staged photography’, his celebrated large-format photographs are intricately and subtly composed from numerous individual shots. Often inspired by daily life, Wall’s photographic practice is rooted in its relationship to other art forms, including cinema, classical painting and literature – an approach which the artist terms ‘cinematography’.
