Instituto de VisiónBeltrán Obregón’s latest body of work, Absolute Ceiling offers a new exploration of perception, abstraction, and speed. Borrowing its title from the aeronautical term for the highest altitude at which an aircraft can maintain level flight, the exhibition continues one of the central concerns of Obregón’s painting practice: the relationship between movement, perception, and the limits of experience. Through a selection of recent works, viewers encounter canvases of remarkable subtlety, where the threshold between stillness and motion becomes almost imperceptible. Rather than depicting movement directly, Absolute Ceiling invites us to engage with shifting visual relationships and expanded ways of seeing, reflecting on the invisible forces that shape perception, velocity, and the physical limits of experience. Beltrán Obregón is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, photography, video, and installation. Educated at the Rhode Island School of Design and Goldsmiths, University of London, his work explores abstraction, perception, and image-making, drawing inspiration from 20th-century European and Latin American avant-garde movements. Obregón has exhibited internationally and continues to live and work in Bogotá, where he also teaches at Universidad de los Andes.
