Rehearsals for Living
Anat EbgiOlive Diamond's Rehearsals for Living presents new multi-tile ceramic tableaux, paintings, and sculptural vessels that examine formative structures of childhood and play. These new works look to toys as an interface between human ambition, technological progress, belief systems, and fantasy—objects through which adult worlds are scaled down, rehearsed, and transmitted to the young influencing cultural views of law, ritual, and war. Diamond's practice considers how these systems are first encountered and internalized, tracing the ways play and imagination mediate early understandings of time, causality, and morality. Olive Diamond (b. 1998, Los Angeles, CA) graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2021 with a BFA in Painting and Ceramics. Diamond was awarded the 2021 Florence Leif Award and the 2020 Anderson Ranch Fellowship.
