The Road to Hollow Pond

Frestonian Gallery is pleased to present our second solo exhibition of works by Hannah Brown. The subject of the boundary or ‘in-between’ space has long been a fascination for Brown, and this new series finds its focus on just such a place near to the artist’s home in east London. Visiting the two principal sites – James Lane and Hollow Pond itself – throughout the year, Brown has developed an intimate knowledge of the rhythms of the space(s) as the seasons come and go, and so too the changing quality of the light from early spring to late autumn and from dawn to dusk.... Hannah Brown (b. 1977 in Salisbury, England) completed her BA Sculpture at Central St Martins in 1999 and her MA at the Royal College of Art in 2006. Brown’s work centres on the psychology of the English landscape. She is interested in the status of landscape painting, the use and value of arcadian imagery, and the appropriative interaction of the urban and natural environment. Recent exhibitions include 'Hollow Pond', Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles; 'Arcadia and Elsewhere', James Cohan Gallery, New York & 'I Stood Still', Frestonian Gallery, London. Her work is in the collection of the V&A Museum (UK); The State Collection of Ireland; The Government Art Collection (UK); the Tia Collection (USA) and private collections worldwide. Her upcoming solo show at Frestonian Gallery opens 7th November 2024.
