Silently Making Noise is the first solo exhibition of paintings by Los Angeles based artist Langley Fox Hemingway (b. 1989 Sun Valley Idaho) "The silence left behind has loud echoes of existence. Each place or thing holds a story, an emotion, a melody that ignites nostalgic memories owned by anyone, floating in the ether waiting to be recognized. It’s like ambient melancholic music bringing out parts of you you didn’t know existed or hid; depths in your heart that feel a little too sensitive to shine a light on most days. The work intends on highlighting ordinary things or neglected places with a cinematic touch through light or a physical filter obstructing the reality of what it is to easily unfold the lost memories or an emotional response within it. The world is full of hidden treasures and curiosities in plain sight and these are the things i’m interested in; the lost, the forgotten, the uncared for. The work is all painted in oil paint mostly on wood panel and a couple on linen. I lean towards photorealism but without tracing or cutting corners and all sketching done directly in paint. I have to trust that where my mistakes take place is where it actually makes it interesting." —LFH
