Creatures of the Lines
Alexander LevyVideo Room The gallery is pleased to present our next opening in the Video Room of Creatures of the Lines by Sonia Levy. Creatures of the Lines is a collaborative artist film with anthropologist Heather Anne Swanson. It examines how England’s waterways have been reshaped for economic growth, transforming curving, natural landscapes into linear structures. Focusing on canals built during the British Empire to connect Indian cotton fields with English mills, the film reveals the ecological impact of colonial capitalism, from industrial pollution in England to monoculture in the colonies. By telling stories from within these altered waterways, it invites reflection on ecological changes tied to global economic infrastructure.
