Horizon Line

Madeline Bohrer Drea Cofield Gaby Collins-Fernandez Erica Newton Ruby/Dakota is pleased to present the exhibition Horizon Line, curated by Mad Eye Gallery. Featuring works by artists Madeline Bohrer, Drea Cofield, Erica Newton, and Gaby Collins-Fernandez, this exhibition invites viewers to look forward, capturing the longing of the horizon in both its simplicity and abstraction. Drawing inspiration from plein air painting, art history, and personal experience, the artists use a variety of techniques—from plaster to digital printing on velvet paper—as symbols of infinite possibility. The horizon line serves as a powerful image in our culture, always present but forever unreachable. It creates a tension of longing, much like when two colors meet in a painting and the entire world seems to pause. Horizon Line serves as a hopeful reminder that art, like the horizon, continues to evolve, pushing boundaries and inspiring change, always moving toward greater possibility. Drea Cofield is an artist currently working in Brooklyn, NY. She has exhibited widely including Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles and New York with recent solo exhibitions at Kravets Wehby Gallery in NYC, Galleri Urbane in Dallas, TX and Future Fair in Chelsea, NY. Upcoming shows include solo exhibitions at Sarah Gormley in Columbus, OH, Soho Revue in London, UK, and her second at Galleri Urbane in Dallas, TX. Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, WhiteHot Magazine, The Brooklyn Rail, and Contemporary Painting (World of Art). She is the recipient of a Elizabeth Greenshields Grant and the Yale Gloucester Painting Prize. Residencies include Goldey House on Lake George, NY in 2024, and a Yaddo Residency in Saratoga Springs, NY, in 2023. Cofeild received her B.A. from DePauw University (Greencastle, IN) in 2008 and her M.F.A from Yale School of Art (New Haven, CT), in 2013. Erica Newton was born in Berkeley, CA. She received her BA from Bard College in 2014 and her MFA from the New York Studio School in 2022. She attended The Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture in 2024. She currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. Madeline Bohrer is an artist working from her studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn. A professor at Rowan University, she is an alumna of Boston University and holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work delves into themes of dyslexia, personal experience, and art history. She has participated in residencies at Silver Art Projects, Centre Pompadour, Miss Hall’s School, and Casa-Tagumerche. Her work has been exhibited at Latitude Gallery, Tchotchke Gallery, Artpowher, Adelson Gallery, SPF 32 at William Ulmer Brewery, Spoonbill Studio, and the Berkshire Museum Gaby Collins-Fernandez (b. 1987, New York, NY) is an artist living and working in New York. She has shown her work nationally and internationally, and has had residencies at Yaddo, the Marble House Project, and the Elizabeth Murray Art Residency; as well as being a recipient of a 2013 Rema Hort Mann Emerging Art Award and a 2023-4 Sharpe Walentas Studio Residency. Most recently, Gaby had a solo show, Art in Love, at Rachel Uffner Gallery's Upstairs Gallery; as well as recent solo exhibitions at NIna Johnson Gallery (2023), and anonymous gallery (2022). Gaby is also a writer, teacher, and publisher of the artist-run magazine Precog with Kellie Konapelsky and Florencia Escudero; and collaborator of the art and music initiative BombPop!Up with Drea Cofield and Jonah Parzen-Johnson
