Off Line On Mark
Parallel Art SpaceHappenstance occurrences and chance encounters can sometimes develop into the most meaningful of exchanges. This is perhaps the most true in New York City and it’s environs; an intersection of the world where every stripe of person and idea is represented. One such intersection, humble though it may be, is Parallel Art Space; an artist-run art space at the border of Bushwick, Brooklyn and Ridgewood, Queens. At a Parallel Art Space event last year, several artists; local, out-of-state, and international, posed for a casual photograph, possibly to mark the occasion of engaging art, friendships, and conversations. This photograph was then posted to a social networking site and the connections and conversation grew. Within this on-line exchange the possibility for an off-line, real-time exploration of a group showing of these same artists arose. So what does it look like when the curatorial premise for a group show is based on a chance juxtaposition of friendships and conviviality? Well, with this fortuitous grouping of these particular artists, it looks as pretty as a picture. Join us to celebrate the works of Alain Biltereyst, Katrin Bremermann, Erin Lawlor, Lael Marshall, Don Voisine, Michael Voss, Douglas Witmer, the mark of community building and the beauty of connectivity; however it arises.
