For Cruel Intentions, Arusha Gallery welcomes works by 34 contemporary artists exploring ideas of exchange, offerings and power, our impulses, motives and values and reasons behind them. One of the first steps we make in learning the laws of the human universe are the rules of exchange; what do you have that I want and what do I have that you want. It permeates almost every aspect of our life. Simultaneously acting as the fabric that weaves us together, as a specious-a mycelium informing of needs and surplus. We share, we give, we support. We assign meaning and value to objects, treating them as currency. But there is also the darker side of exchange, with different intentions this can be a chance to get something for nothing, a fertile ground ripe for the sprouting of greed, exploitation and power. Arusha Gallery is a contemporary art gallery with its main premises in Edinburgh's historic New Town. Opening in 2013, Arusha runs an annual programme of exhibitions, events and fairs, both nationally and internationally, with regular collaborations with guest artists, curators, festivals and institutions.
