The Burning Screen
SultanaThe Burning Screen presents a selection from ongoing and recent series, including docile_body, black_fireworks, her_room, and foreign_lines. Fleeting silhouettes emerge within expansive gestural abstractions, while smaller canvases depict figures in quiet interior settings. By juxtaposing sweeping gestures with more intimate registers within a single space, the exhibition reflects on how screens bring distant events into the private sphere, revealing the impact of digital technologies on our perception of reality and ourselves. Wu Jiaru (b. 1992) is a Hong Kong–based artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, and video, often combining these media in immersive installations. Drawing on references from literature, mythology, cinema, and media imagery, Wu explores how narratives and their representations shape our perception of the world. Recent solo exhibitions include Flowers, Hong Kong; Hart, Hong Kong; and P21, Seoul. She has also exhibited at Tai Kwun Contemporary, UCCA Beijing and OCAT Shenzhen. Her work is held in the collections of M+, the Burger Collection, and the Morgan Stanley Art Collection.
