Holo Be Thy Name

Holographic Studios is pleased to present Holo Be Thy Name by Maggie Lee and Jeanette Hayes. Fueled by holography's connection to the sublime, the two artists sifted through Holographic Studios' archive of vintage material to make new pieces which speak to the sacred otherworldliness. This exhibition will be showcasing painting, collage, a sculpture, and a collaborative shadogram. Holography uniquely invites the exploration of the transformative qualities of color and space. In holography's glow, perception is refracted into a whole new way of seeing. Jeanette Hayes (b. 1989) is a New York-based artist who received a BFA in painting from Pratt Institute. Her work explores technological and pop imagery through painting, drawing, collage, video and digital manipulation. With international solo shows in Italy, France and Sweden, Hayes has also been included in exhibitions at the New Museum, the Spirit Museum in Stockholm and shown at various galleries in New York and Los Angeles including Half Gallery, M+B Gallery, Allouche Gallery, The Hole, Johannes Vogt Gallery, The National Arts Club and more. Hayes’s work has been featured in The New York Times, Art News, Vogue, Interview and others. TimeOut New York named her one of the"5 Most Important New Artists in New York City.” Maggie Lee (b. 1987) is a New York–based multimedia artist. She often works with found and archival material. Her practice is experimental and informed by an attention tonstyle. Lee received her BFA in Printmaking from Pratt Institute in New York. Solo exhibitions include Sprinkles at House of Gaga, Mexico City (2025); Magazine at Kunsthalle Zürich, Zürich (2024); Unique Boutique at House of Gaga & Reena Spaulings, Los Angeles (2023); Happy at Édouard Montassut, Paris (2022); and Vintage Paintings at Jenny’s, New York (2021). Her work is held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Holo Be Thy Name is curated by Sy Rivers who is at the helm of this new iteration of Holographic Studios. A next generation holographer, Sy is ushering the medium to the forefront of the contemporary art world, proving it to be much more than kitsch. Holographic Studios is the only gallery, laboratory, and education center of Holography in New York and the longest running space of its kind in the world. Since 1979, Holographic Studios has operated at the intersection of contemporary art and science, preserving and innovating this incredible and endangered medium.
