Between Utopias and the Abyss

Kaliner

23 April – 31 May 2026

Kaliner is pleased to present Between Utopias and the Abyss, a show by glassblower Austin Fields and painter Pàulla Scàvazzini. Austin Fields is a glassblower and sculptor whose interdisciplinary practice explores light, reflection, and abstraction. Working directly with hot glass, Fields explores the medium as a fluid landscape, sculpted into organic forms that evoke shifting terrain and light. Her intuitive process allows forms to emerge spontaneously, often echoing the contours of the human body while drawing inspiration from natural environments, atmospheric lightscapes, and dreamlike states. Through this approach, her work considers the relationship between material, perception, and space. Pàulla Scàvazzini is a visual artist based in Sāo Paulo, Brazil. Echoing her early background in architecture, Scàvazzini's works often engage directly with the spaces they inhabit—whether through paintings that converse with the exhibition environment or through interventions painted onto the space itself. Painting emerges in direct relation to space, to architectural scale, and to the ways in which the body perceives and traverses the environment, resulting in immersive, site-specific installations. Pàulla Scàvazzini transforms the gallery into an immersive installation space, unfolding as a dynamic environment shaped by gesture, color, and perception.
