Bad ReputationIn 2015, a group exhibition at Almine Rech Gallery, Paris, included five of Adam Marnie’s wall sculptures, two of which were titled Collateral and Heat. Three wall sculptures were exhibited in a group exhibition at Ribordy Contemporary, Geneva, one of which was Give a Little, Take a Little. Another wall sculpture, Last Of The Mohicans, was shown at Halsey McKay, East Hampton, New York. Milk Run, The Maze, and Heart of Darkness were shown with Derek Eller Gallery at Frieze, New York, that same year. In 2016, for a two person exhibition at the Elaine de Kooning House and Studio in East Hampton, New York, Marnie spraypainted Heat black and exhibited it as Black Heat. These works presented a standardized model of construction, with identical dimensions and made of the same hardwood maple milled to ¾ inch stock and assembled into a series of 63 x 3 x 3 inch forms. Each form was sanded, painted, then fractured, and titled after crime noir motion pictures directed by Michael Mann or after episodes titles from the first season of the Michael Mann Productions tv show Miami Vice. In 2017 the above exhibited sculptures were destroyed, and reworked. Bad Reputation is pleased to present four of these reworked sculptures in New Constructions, the first solo exhibition at the gallery of Los Angeles based artist Marnie. The exhibition includes Vertical Construction with Seven Removals (red/yellow/black), Vertical Construction with Eight Removals (white), Vertical Construction with Nine Removals (black) and Terminal (red), made in 2017, titled and dated in 2018. Recent exhibitions include Fort Greene, Venus, Los Angeles (2016); One/Thinking Two/Willing, kijidome, Boston (2016); Construction/Destruction, Galerie Almine Rech, Paris (2015) and Rongwrong, Elaine de Kooning House in East Hampton, NY (2016). In 2017, Marnie organized the group exhibitions The Garden of Forking Paths, Magenta Plains, New York (2017); and Windows, David Peterson Gallery, Minneapolis (2017). He is publisher and editor-in-chief of F Magazine, the sixth issue of which is out April 2018.
