Everyday Legends

Eleventh Hour Art is pleased to present Everyday Legends, Photographs by Nathan Benn. One day during installation of an exhibit, a Brooklyn Heights local walked in and pointed out a photo on the wall. That local man turned out to be Nathan Benn, acclaimed National Geographic photographer and artist. After delving into his lifelong history of renowned works taken across the globe, Benn and the gallery have settled on a collection of photos to present back to our shared community. Benn’s work captures people in their authentic environments, rarely posing the subjects. I asked him, what came first, the story or the photo? His answer was, the photo. With the click of his camera he captures stories of American history. His work gives us glimpses into the evocative everyday human experience- the hands of a railroad engineer, two friends playing on the beach, a man getting a haircut in a barbershop. The title Everyday Legends points to these people- humans that span ages, backgrounds, means, and desires.
