Sick Painters
Ms BarbersMike Ambron, Lander Burton, Rebekah Callaghan, Dorian Dean, Kati Gegenheimer, Danny Gibson, Gwen Kurtz, Rachel LaBine, Alan Prazniak, Kenny Rivero, Roni Shneior, Kenn Taylor, Zahar Vaks Curated by Dustin Metz Ms Barbers is proud to present Sick Painters: 13 painters from LA, New York, Philadelphia, and New Haven. The painters in this show are sick. Sick with skills and vision. So fucking sick. And sick painters deserve sick shows. Like a surfer without a wave, it isn't healthy for a painting to be cooped up in a studio for too long. These painters’ paintings must be set free! This show prioritizes a way of working, thinking, and feeling about painting. These artists may start with an image or idea, but that initial spark is just that- a way to ignite a search into the unknown. These are artists sick with a confidence and commitment to the medium, a trust that it will guide them to something they haven't yet seen but cannot wait to meet. Alan paints with the stuff that you see when you stand up too quickly. Rebekah digs in the beautiful dirt with color and touch. Gwen’s paintings are total freaks and we love them. Rachel paints with the smoke of a freshly blown out candle. Kenn’s painting is good people. Lander handles objects to collect handprints. Kati confronts the weight of the world with teal colored glasses. Zahar is a beautiful, colorful, fragrant, musical mess. Kenny’s paintings are poetry but, like, poetry you want to hang out with. Mike runs his fingers inside of your eyeballs. Danny lures you into his spindly dream journals. Roni stares at the sun and then looks at the mirror and paints that. Dorian is a builder bird creating homes for her meditations. The world is full of Sick Painters, with more getting sick everyday. This show is only the beginning of a new Sick Painting model.
