Florence Jung creates script-based situations that unfold in real life, which she refers to as scenarios. In the absence of visual or material evidence, the scenarios circulate through the personal, evolving, and sometimes contradictory narratives of viewers and witnesses. Yet none of this is fictional—each scenario is real. All of Florence Jung’s works exist in a single form: a document containing the scenario, its activation protocol, and its terms and conditions. This document is not to be exhibited, no visual content is provided, and no other object can be attributed to her. As such, her scenarios circulate not through documentation but through activation. Her works have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions, including at the Halle für Kunst in Lüneburg, Fondation Pernod-Ricard in Paris, Centralbanken in Oslo, the Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Siegen, Helmhaus Zürich, Frac Lorraine in Metz, Kunstverein Bielefeld, Despacio in San José, and Circuit in Lausanne. She has also participated in many group exhibitions, including at Portikus in Frankfurt, Poush in Aubervilliers, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Kunsthalle Basel, Kunsthaus Zürich, Gasworks in London, the Haubrok Foundation in Berlin, Forde in Geneva, the Estonian Museum of Contemporary Art in Tallinn, the Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Curitiba, Museum Tinguely in Basel, the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Strasbourg. Florence Jung has also participated in various biennials, including the Stavanger Secession, the Art Encounters Biennale in Timisoara, the Ural Biennale in Yekaterinburg, and the Athens Biennale. Her works are held in several public collections, such as the Swiss Federal Art Collection, the Fonds d’Art Contemporain – Paris Collections, Kunsthaus Aarau, Kunsthaus Zürich, the CNAP, and several FRACs. From 2016 to 2024, she was the co-founder and co-director of le lieu secret—an independent art space located in the train station of Biel/Bienne—where she presented solo exhibitions by artists such as Walead Beshty, Jason Dodge, Judith Kakon, Olivier Mosset, Sadie Plant, Liv Schulman, etc. A former resident of the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and the Museum Susch, Florence Jung is the recipient of the Swiss Performance Award, the Georg and Josi Guggenheim Prize, the Swiss Art Award, the Foundation Irène Reymond Prize and the Foundation Aeschlimann Corti Hauptpreis.
