Sissòn
Hereafter
MurmursFront Gallery Murmurs is pleased to present Hereafter, a solo exhibition comprised of paintings and sculptures by Sissòn, marking the artist’s first solo show with the gallery. This exhibition serves as a survey or a departure from one school of thinking, and ascendance to a new era for the artist. Evoking a period of renaissance similar to Miles Davis's transition from Silent Way to Bitches Brew, Sissòn expands on their vast knowledge of color theory and application, merging abstract and figurative painting styles. To continue the journey in addition to their paintings, Sissòn forges ceramic sacred face jugs inspired by the Deep South filled with hand-grown cotton. Born 1986 in Los Angeles, California then raised in Glendale, Arizona where at the age of seven, Sissòn began their creative curriculum under the tutelage of their mother Kimberlin who suddenly passed away in 2006. Sissòn has been featured in Surface Magazine, Le Dépanneur(2025); Allouche Gallery, New York, NY (2024); Journal Gallery, New York, NY (2023); Franchise, Los Angeles, CA (2022). Recent group exhibitions include Arcadia Gallery, New York, NY (2024); V1 Gallery, Copenhagen, Denmark (2024); Sebastian Gladstone, Los Angeles, CA (2022); Blumenfield Projects, Santa Monica, CA (2022); Contemporary African American Museum, Los Angeles, CA (2021).
