With Each Cycle, a Brain
Nicoletta Fiorucci FoundationJenna Sutela presents With Each Cycle, a Brain, her debut solo show in the UK at the Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation in London, curated by Vittoria de Franchis. The exhibition includes a site - specific iteration of Pond Brain (2023), a sculptural sound installation inspired by ‘a lt’ cybernetic ideas about ponds as self - regulating, living systems. Both an instrument and a fountain, Pond Brain contains water whose movement resonates with a synthesized, ever - changing environment of sounds drawing from oceanic and interplanetary audio libraries. Installed in the Library of the Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation, a new space dedicated to intermedia and experimental practices, the work transforms the room into a resonance chamber and observatory. For the exhibition, Sutela presents a new work , Pond Ephemeris – a phosphorescent score in the form of a lunar chart, perforated into paper in the manner of punch cards, extending her research into sound, language, and registers beyond the human. On the occasion of the exhibition, Sutela releases Pond Brain as a record in a limited edition of 70, lathe - cut in resin, as the first of its kind, and incorporating organic debris from ponds. The release is being published by PAN, a multidisciplinary record label and platform for artists, with support fro m the Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation. The record is part of the exhibition and presented at CCA Berlin - Center for Contemporary Arts in Berlin in April 2026. Jenna Sutela’s living sculptures, images, and sound works explore open systems in biology, computation, and language. Based in Berlin, Sutela's work has been presented internationally, including at Castello di Rivoli, Turin (2025); Centre d’Art Contemporain Genève (2024); Swiss Institute, New York (2023); Helsinki Biennale (2023); Haus der Kunst, Munich (2022); Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki (2022); Shanghai Biennial (2021); Liverpool Biennial (2021); Kunsthall Trondheim (2020); Serpentine Galleries, London (2019); and Moderna Museet, Stockholm (2019). She has been a visiting artist at La Becque, MIT, Somerset House Studios, and Callie’s Berlin, and is a Jane Lombard Fellow at The New School. Sutela will exhibit in the Finnish Pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale in 2026.
