Bird World
ThetaTheta is pleased to present Bird World, the first solo exhibition by New York-based artist Ty Palow (b. 1999). Often building from photographs transferred onto wood-grain panels and reworked by hand, Palow's new works blur photography and painting, treating the present as if it were already memory and memory as present. Moving between salvaged furniture, antique textiles, East Village dive bars, cherry blossoms, and autofictional scenes of queer life in New York, the works explore the afterlives of objects, places, and desires. In Bird World, the allure of youth arrives already worn and remembered, as relics of a gilded city dream linger long after their original glamour has faded. Ty Palow (b. 1999 Columbus, OH) is an artist who lives and works in New York City. He received a BFA from the Cooper Union in 2021.
