Still-Life

Acme

19 November 2016 – 8 January 2017

Acme is pleased to present "Still-Life", a solo exhibition of new work by Los Angeles based artist Jennifer Steinkamp. This is the artist's eleventh solo show at Acme, and the inaugural exhibition at the gallery's new Los Angeles location (see directions below). Steinkamp continues to employ computer animation and new media in order to explore ideas about architectural space, motion, and perception. In her latest series, the artist depicts a variety of female fruit bearing plants. Tempted by the idea of making a still-life, Steinkamp addresses the wryly taboo subject. Jennifer Steinkamp (b. Denver, CO) studied Motion Graphics at the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA, and received her BFA, MFA, and honorary PhD from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA. Her work is included in many museum collections including the Albright Knox Gallery, Buffalo, NY; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Denver Art Museum, Denver, Colorado; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA; Minneapolis Institute of Arts, Minneapolis, MN; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA; Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, California; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, among others.
