Benjamin Echeverria

This exhibition contains three bodies of work: Dance Paintings, Cut Paintings, and Lifts. Dance Paintings are made on the floor by pouring paint on the canvas and dancing on it, Cut Paintings are made by attaching objects and materials to the painting’s stretcher bars, then stretching linen over the structure and making small incisions into the linen, partially exposing what is beneath. The Lifts are ceramic prints; small sheets of clay are pressed onto light switches, electrical outlets, locks, door handles, car keys, and other everyday devices intrinsically linked to the hand. The resulting indexical clay forms are fired and coated with silver luster. Benjamin Echeverria (b. 1980) lives and works in Los Angeles. He attended Yale Norfolk and studied at the Boston Museum School, the San Francisco Art Institute, and the University of Southern California, Roski School of Art and Design. He has exhibited internationally and curates the Reserve Ames exhibition program in Los Angeles.
