Wave at Night

Parent Company

19 August – 23 August 2026

Parent Company is proud to present the culminating installation of its 2026 Studio Residency, featuring Blinn and Lambert, the collaborative duo of Nicholas Steindorf and Kyle Williams. Wave at night is a site-specific installation that speaks to themes of stillness, incremental change, and passages through architectural space. The work consists of a 35mm slide projection and 7 x 22 foot canvas screen, obliquely running the length of Parent Company’s lower level. The slide carousel projects a series of abstract folded forms onto the screen. Each projected image is a 20-second drawing created by moving a camera with an open shutter. The work's 12 slides advance at five-minute intervals, creating a patient, rhythmic clock. Working across optical media, installation, and projected light, Blinn and Lambert’s work investigates how images can articulate time, materiality, and presence. Rooted in a shared background in painting, their practice extends the pictorial gesture into moving image. Together, they have created 16mm animations, 35mm slide projections, and stereoscopic shadow works, each exploring the poetic possibilities of a technology through simple, silent objects. The Studio Residency Program provides emerging artists working in installation or performance with a dedicated space to explore and develop ambitious new work. Over the course of the eight-week residency, artists work out of the gallery, host public programs, and create a culminating installation that is presented to the public during the final week of the residency.
