Mulherin + PollardPointing to various aesthetics ranging from early 20th century avantgarde movements to American underground comics, Boeskov's drawings depict androids in various states of human emotion; playing guitar, making love, crying, etc. With Fuck The Singularity Jakob Boeskov investigates an old artistic obsession: the relationship between man and machine. Behind the deadpan exhibition title is a humorous look into the future of our complex dependencies and interconnections with computers and software. The title is a reference to "the singularity," a concept with sci-fi origins that has become a popular and influential buzz phrase in the Silicon Valley tech-world. The concept postulates that artificial intelligence soon will surpass human intelligence. The exhibition may be seen as an attempt to satirize the computer algorithms that shape our social lives. The more technology engulfs our lives the less visible it becomes. It is from this paradoxical reality that Boeskov's hilarious drawings manifest their illustrative energy. Jakob Boeskov (born in Elsinore, Denmark in 1973) has over the last 15 years created a unique, multi-faceted body of work using a wide artistic vocabulary, an approach that includes the use of drawing, video, painting and music. He is perhaps best known for his ID Sniper-project, a one week performance, where a he brought afictional hi-tech weapon to a real weapons fair in China. Boeskov has exhibited widely in Europe and North America. He most recently appeared in Social Goth (2014) at the Scandinavian Institute in New York (alongside artists Michelle Grabner, Lizzi Bougatsos, and Mike Kelley, among others). The artist lives and works in New York.
