Louis Eisner + Peter Sutherland

For their Art in General New Commission, The Still House Group (an emerging artist-run organization based in Brooklyn) presents +1, a new artist-run space in the heart of Chinatown. Housed in a storefront space under the Manhattan Bridge, +1 will present a series of exhibitions by The Still House Group’s permanent roster of eight artists: Alex Perweiler, Isaac Brest, Zachary Susskind, Louis Eisner, Jack Greer, Brendan Lynch, Dylan Lynch, and Nick Darmstaedter. Each exhibition will be a solo presentation with a plus one – the addition of another artwork, object, or artist to the space. Building on Art in General’s own history as an artist-run alternative space, is a +1 is a new platform for The Still House Group to present unconventional work and exchange ideas. The third exhibition of +1 features artists Louis Eisner + Peter Sutherland. Eisner offers up Red Wave, 2013, a large oil on linen painting of a disembodied cherry red playground slide. Sutherland takes on the gallery windows, installing a glowing decal of what appears to be a pile of burning wood, enveloping the space. Louis Eisner (b. 1988) is an American artist living and working in New York, NY. Eisner received his B.A. from Columbia University in 2010. Eisner has been the subject of recent solo exhibitions, including Cover Artist, Ritter/Zamet, London, United Kingdom (2013); Leviathan, Half Gallery, New York, NY (2013); and Head, The National Exemplar, New York, NY (2011). His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions, including ANAMERICANA, AAR Gallery, Rome, Italy (2013); (BRU)s, Galerie Rodolphe Janssen, Brussels, Belgium (2013); Out of Memory, Marianne Boesky, New York, NY (2013); Banana Hammock (presented by The Still House Group) Art Basel, Miami, FL (2012); among others. Peter Sutherland (b. 1976) is an American artist living and working in New York. His work has been shown at several national and international solo exhibitions, including Couch Surf, Gallery Target, Tokyo, Japan (2010); The Prophet Dude, Mountain Fold Gallery, NYC (2010); Gathering, Lawrimore Project, Seattle, USA (2010); Blame It on the Dog, ATM Gallery NYC (2009); Game, MU, Eindhoven, The Netherlands (2007); Autograf, Someday Gallery, Melbourne, Australia (2005).
