Com o coração saindo pela boca / With the heart coming out of the mouth

Jonathas de Andrade will represent Brazil at the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, with the work Com o coração saindo pela boca / With the heart coming out of the mouth. The newly commissioned installation brings together photographs, sculptures and a video piece, that draws on the multitude of Brazilian expressions and idioms that reference the human body to express feelings and sensations related to the current Brazilian context. “This invitation is a surprise and an honor. Nevertheless, the idea of representing Brazil today, wherever, is a great challenge primarily for the responsibility in the context of the crucial complexities the country is currently facing. Hopefully, art will manage to translate the tangled knot it is to live in our times and will manage to inspire dreams that allow us to untie those knots,” the artist states.
