Giovanni's RoomAyu Halim (b. 1995, Jakarta) is a multidisciplinary artist exploring archived histories, materials, and ritual through sculpture, installation, and performance. Halim is interested in linking intrinsically architectural concepts within ancient lore and theologies to the physical, built world. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She lives and works in Los Angeles, California. Domestic building materials are used in a way to ascribe the installation with being unfinished. There is a familiarity to the interior structures of the common California house yet the adages come from a less familiar, faraway lexicon. Within the stick-framed theater, ceramic puppets are used to narrate multiple histories of destructive creatures, the five genders, witchcraft, and interregional movement. The ensemble looks at the way in which the structures of convention dictate categories of reality.
