Hanging on a Ledge

Dimensions Variable

18 November – 22 December 2023

On view at Dimensions Variable are recent works by Francie Bishop Good. Good’s recent works collapse the division between painting and sculpture. Her ‘pairings’ blur together two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms that rest and rely on each other. Vibrant hypercolored paint strokes blend seamlessly with her hand-manipulated clay formations that evoke the evolution of ceramics as well as Seussical abstracted environs. They are sometimes fluorescent, calling you toward them like bright underwater corals, breathing with oceanic phosphorescence. They are earthy and extraterrestrial at the same time. They are full of manual labor, but they are also the spark of something inside, the roadways of the intangible mind. “My need to engage in the unruly behavior of clay and paint blossomed after decades of working with flat computer generated work. The challenge and delight of clay is a new element to my work, My photographs are the first layer, the initial part of this mix of voices. Photography, sculpture and painting are like children, arguing and playing together. Each element informs the other, and the addition of the shelf is a stabilizing force that acts as the parent holding all the elements together.” Francie Bishop Good born Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Lives and works in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Good received her BFA from University of Colorado and Masters of Education from Florida Atlantic University. Bishop Good is twice recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship, and the State of Florida Individual Artist Fellowship.
