Après-Ski

Karma International

16 January – 21 February 2016

Judith Bernstein, Sylvie Fleury, K8 Hardy, Mélanie Matranga, Carissa Rodriguez, Melanie Schiff, Martin Soto Climent, Keiichi Tanaami, Urban Zellweger Karma International is pleased to announce Après-Ski, the inaugural exhibition of their new space in Los Angeles. After a six-month-long gallery-in-residence in Mid City earlier this year, the Zurich-based gallery will open a permanent gallery space in Beverly Hills. Situated on the 4th floor of the iconic Golden Triangle Building, the gallery functions as a place where art can be seen on an intimate scale and a dialogue about art can be held in a private atmosphere. Après-Ski travels from Zurich, Switzerland, and introduces the gallery’s roster of artists to the Los Angeles public. The term “Après-Ski” refers to a post-ski drink, and was chosen as a nod to the gallery’s Swiss roots. The group show will feature new work by Sylvie Fleury— including a neon piece and wall painting that will function as a backdrop for the other works in the show—following her successful performance and sculpture at the Bass Museum in Miami in December 2015. The LA edition of the show includes the addition of LA-based photographer Melanie Schiff. “With Après-Ski we welcomingly reach out to the Los Angeles art community and invite them to learn about our exciting program of internationally recognized artists,” says co-owner Karolina Dankow. “The show is conceived as a friendly gesture, like a warm drink one offers to a friend after having skied together all day.”
